Hello, my name is David. I would love to share my story with you!
I have grown up in the church since I was born. I was dedicated at 2 months old, accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at the age of 7, water baptized at the age of 8, and baptized in the Holy Spirit at the age of 12.
At the age of 15, I realized that just because I went to church, it didn’t make me a Christian. Throughout the first 15 years of my life, I had been calling myself a Christian but I was not following what God wanted for my life. I struggled with pornography. I would curse and swear out of frustration and anger, I was not following the ten commandments; I would put other things before God, I would use the Lord’s name wrong, I would fight with my parents all the time, I would lie, and I would have jealousy towards different things. Even though I went to church, it did not make me a Christian.
I realized that to be a Christian is to have a one-on-one relationship with Jesus Christ. A metaphor I use to describe this is; If I put on a Spain jersey, does that make me Spanish? No. If I go to church, does that make me a Christian? No. Jesus is the one and only way to Heaven. In John 14:6 Jesus says; “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
I surrendered my entire life to Christ at the age of 15 while attending a youth conference. Ever since that day, my life has changed drastically. Of course I still struggle everyday with different situations, and mess up, and I still sin, but I know that Jesus has got my back and that he is in control of my future. Surrendering to Christ was one of the greatest decisions I have ever made.
Genesis 1:27 says; “God created man in His own image…” I wake up with confidence every morning knowing that I was created in God’s image. That is a beautiful thought. The man who created the entire universe took time to create me in his image. Wow.
In conclusion, being a Christian is having a one-on-one relationship with Jesus Christ. Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian. Surrender your life to God and let him take control! Always Remember, Jesus loves you!
