James 4:4 You adulterous people,[a] don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us[b]? 6 But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”[c]

Okay, so let’s say you have a spouse and every day, they go out and get a prostitute. What do we call that? Adultery right? Okay let’s say they only go out once a year to get a prostitute. What do we call it then? Okay let’s say they only go out once a year and they get a prostitute but they just talk and hold hands?
What if they just talk and nothing more?

James continues his writing by calling us all adulterous. He’s talking to Christian people. He’s talking to church people. He’s talking to you and me. This isn’t meant for outsiders, this is for us.

We just sort of do what we want, say what we want, and proclaim that we are a Christian and we’re going to heaven so it’s alright. This isn’t the case. James, the brother of Jesus tells us that we cannot be a friend to Jesus and a friend to the world at the same time. We can only be a friend to one. And if we are a friend to this world, we are an enemy of God because this world is ruled almost completely by Satan and because of that this world hates God.

Young people don’t understand this fact yet because they don’t have enough life experience, but Satan rules most of the media, music, entertainment, Satan is in charge of most celebrities and pop culture. So when you start loving things of the world you can get yourself into big trouble. Even Christians can get into big trouble if they love “christian things” more than they love Jesus.

People will often go to Satan in desperation because Satan oftentimes says yes no matter what. He doesn’t really care about you though and he’ll say yes to you even if it means you’re going to be hurt in the end. How many of you have received something you wanted and then realized it was a big mistake?

Well that’s exactly what’s going to happen to you if you follow the world instead of following God. In the end you’ll have more regrets than you can bare. The other thing is Satan hates you. He wants you in hell. He’ll do anything to destroy you, even if it means distracting you by giving you seemingly good things.

Imagine a parent who only feeds their children ice cream and candy for breakfast lunch and dinner. Lets their kid skip school everyday, never forces the child to do chores, lets the child do anything they want. That child will have all kinds of miserable problems later on in life and they will despise their parent.

Satan is like that parent, he will give you everything you want for the purpose of ultimately destroying you. You won’t even know it till you are destroyed.

We’ve all been fooled by Satan and his world many times. Satan is a liar. He fools you. He pulls you into his scam by making it look so good and so right. In the end there’s nothing but regret. Satan is amazing at making the wrong things seem right. But know that God loves you and God never lies.
